Welcome to Cast Iron and Fires first official restaurant review. Before we get started just keep this in mind. I will never put up a negative review of a restaurant. If I don’t care for it then I wont write about it. So if you see me review something, it’s a safe bet that I really liked it.
Now let’s take a look at Crispy’s Bar and Grill, located at 3399 Cloverleaf Pkwy, Kannapolis, NC 28083. You can visit their website here: http://www.crispysbarandgrill.com/
Crispy’s Bar and Grill has been on my radar for a while now. I came across them on Instagram and was intrigued with the food I saw. They have something very unique going on at Crispy’s. Pretty much everything that they serve to eat has bacon incorporated into it. Yes, you read that right. Everything has bacon in it. Being the big lover of all things bacon that I am, I had to make a trip in to see what it was all about. I was not disappointed.
When you first walk inside of Crispy’s you get that cool little dive bar feel right off the bat. Long wooden tables with old diner style red and black bar stools run down the center of the building. There is a bar with a long counter to the left for you to eat and drink at. While wrapping around the other side of the buidling are booths with wooden benches on one side and old wooden chairs on the other. They also have a few chairs and tables out on the patio for those cooler months here in the Carolinas.
Looking over the menu for the first time can be a little overwhelming. You see a lot of your classic style bar and pub food but with one big difference. It all has bacon incorporated into it. The special of the day when I went was bacon wrapped lasagna and while that was very tempting It wasn’t quite what I was in the mood for. So I decided to try one of the appetizers while I looked over the menu. The bacon wrapped mozzarella cheese sticks with sriracha ranch sauce caught my eye and I had to have them. A lot of bars tend to serve cheese sticks and for the most part they are all the same. You can usually taste the ones that were frozen and while there isn’t anything wrong with that, there also isn’t anything special about it either. I’m not sure if these actually came frozen originally but I can say that they tasted fresh to me. Maybe it was just the bacon wrapped around them but either way they were really good. When you hear sriracha you tend to think its going to be overpowering and hot but in this case the sauce was not. It was a very nice accompaniment to these bacon wrapped little bites of heaven.
While I quickly devoured my appetizer, I finally settled on the buffalo chicken and bacon sandwich with a side of ranch seasoned potato wedges for my meal. The sandwich is a fried chicken breast tossed in their own buffalo sauce and served on their Gouda grilled cheese while topping it off with spinach, tomato and bacon. It was a great and unique combination of ingredients that really made for a tasty sandwich. The buffalo sauce was really good and while you could taste that classic buffalo flavor, it also had another flavor that I couldn’t quite put my finger on that really sets it aside from the rest. Believe it or not, when I ordered my meal the waitress asked if I wanted bacon on it. I was kind of surprised and asked her if that wasn’t kind of the point of this place? She laughed and said that there are actually people who come in and want them to take the bacon off of what they order. I had to laugh as I rolled my eyes a bit. I guess you can never please everyone.
The ranch seasoned potato wedges were very good but I’m not sure if they are something I would be able to get all of the time. I think those are more of something I would need to be in the mood for speciffically. They also have house chips that look like little mini waffle fries that I have my eye on for next time. Trust me on this, there will be a next time.
The staff on duty that night were all very friendly and treated me like a regular even though it was my first time in. I really enjoyed my visit to Crsipy’s Bar and Grill and will make sure to bring more friends in with me the next time I go.If you happen to be up in the Kannapolis area just above Charlotte, NC make sure to stop in for a very unique dining experience.
